Poker Scanner

I played hold em on a site recently and some of the players accused me of being / or using a scanner. I have no idea what it is!

They argue that if they see the "tracers" to come from where you sit you are using a scanner. From what I am told, a scanner is something that a person uses to other cards. I also play poker online, and have seen the tracers, but have no idea if it really scan or not. But because it can be a valid threat, I will never play for money online. Hope this helps.
