MarketplacePoker Card Guard Is it bad luck to say "good luck" in poker? I want my husband a guard card for his birthday and I can have a hand engraved. I do not know all the superstitions in poker and I was wondering if its bad luck if I put "good luck" about it. I know he thinks about his bad luck, if we get into a fight just before he goes play, and he told me to wish him good luck but I just wanted to be sure. There is no industry-wide superstition against the expression "good luck" in the poker world. It's more of a superstition thing live performance. It's bad luck to say "good luck" to someone before performing before an audience, so they usually say "break a leg". I agree with NB_Bear. If it proves to be bad luck to say "good luck" then the cards are simply not in your favor that night. Beyond that, it's just a superstition or other. Good luck! Posted on January 17, 2010.
