Some personality disorders have poor impulse control and / or addiction as symptoms. So, to treat any person for addiction or a problem of leadership, it is useful to determine whether the low impulse control is due to a personality disorder or something. (Atleast that's what my understanding on the subject, that may not be accurate since I am no expert in this field.)
