Achieving the goals requires persistence! Yes, you often need a good plan. You obviously need desire. Concrete measures must be defined and probably a written mission statement to clarify your thoughts is also a great help.

But all those well-known definition of objectives of the measures could fizzle into oblivion if it was it for the last crucial ingredient - persistence! Here's proof: Ty Cobb set a record of incredible baseball in 1915 by stealing 96 bases. Seven years later Max Carey set the record for second place at 51 stolen bases.

Does this mean that Cobb was twice as effective as Carey? Consider this: Cobb made 134 attempts. Carey 53. Thus, on average Carey was much better. Cobb, however, more than 81 trials and was rewarded with over 44 stolen bases.

Frank Bettger makes this very point, on page 238 of his classic book fascinating: How I got up to a lack of success in sales. When you're behind the great achievements in a given area, it is often the most successful made more attempts and spent more hours on the task to someone else.

In other words, they allow the law of averages space to work in their favor! They have not finished striking, often against the odds.

When it comes to achieving the objectives, this valuable feature, continuing with its bedfellow, perseverance is an absolute necessity.

Yes the six previous steps are also essential and decisive, but if you do not persist, your wonderful plan can fall into the water. Your vivid mental images can simply evaporate into the air. Achieving goals is relegated to wishful thinking.

Achieving goals means that we must simply continue day after day after day. Then, the results you are guaranteed - finally!

Mental Strength

To maintain this kind of momentum you have to develop mental strength. To be mentally tough means you minimize the effects of discouraging and you turn negatives into positives.

Jack Black, in his book Light "MindStore", the computer uses an expression to fight against the negativity - "Remove this program". Whenever a negative thought comes to mind or when others make negative comments, you say, "Remove this program" and replace it with something positive.

When, for example, you find yourself thinking in the sense that it does not work is useless and a waste of time, ask your mental strength to kick in by repeating to yourself "DELETE this program" .

Instead of thinking: "What must I do to make this work!" Certainly, the negative mental habits are hard to break. It takes time and persistence, but oh, the rewards when you do!

The remaining 90%

Do we understand why the title of this article emphasizes the importance of sheer persistence? It really does come down to this. Just continue to persist, persevere, persist, and that the good old law of averages work for you.

The goals become your reality!
